Botox
What
Botox is a brand name for a type of botulinum toxin, a neurotoxic protein produced by botulinum. It is used medically to treat a variety of conditions, including muscle spasms, fine lines, wrinkles, chronic migraines, excessive sweating, and certain neurological disorders.
How
Botox works by blocking the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract, which can reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face. It is a popular cosmetic treatment for reducing the appearance of facial wrinkles, particularly in the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes.
When
During the procedure, your provider will use a very fine needle to inject the Botox into the targeted muscles. The procedure itself is generally not painful, although you may feel a slight discomfort or pinching sensation. Afterward, you may experience some mild swelling, bruising, or redness, but these side effects typically resolve within a few days.
The effects usually last for several months, and you need to have repeat treatments to maintain your results.
Pre-treatment

Schedule your Botox appointment at least 4 weeks prior to a special event, such as a wedding or a vacation to allow for complete healing.

Results will take approximately 4 to 7 days to appear. Also bruising and swelling may be apparent in that time period.

Avoid blood thinners prior to treatment. Patients that bruise easily or take blood thinners may take longer to heal. Please be patient.

Do not consume alcoholic beverages at least 24 hours prior to treatment (alcohol may cause bruising).

To minimize the risk of bruising you may take Arnica or Bromelain

Post-Treatment

Do not manipulate the treated area following treatment. Do not receive facial/laser treatment or microdermabrasion after Botox injections for at least 10 days.

Do not perform activities involving straining, heavy lifting, or vigorous exercise for 6 hours after treatment. This will keep the Botox in the injected area and not elsewhere.

Do not lie down for at least four hours following treatment.

It takes 4-7 days to see full results.
